Andrew Gibbs, a 53-year-old man from High Street, Uckfield, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly raping and assaulting a young child in Edenbridge.
The abuse, which occurred between 2006 and 2008, involved systematic mistreatment and threats aimed at silencing the victim.
During the abuse, Gibbs forced the child to watch pornography and threatened to return and harm them again if they revealed the crimes.
He faced 11 charges at Maidstone Crown Court, including two counts of child rape, two counts of attempted rape, and three counts of creating indecent images of a child.
Despite pleading not guilty, Gibbs was convicted on all counts after a unanimous jury verdict.
Sentencing took place on August 10, with Gibbs receiving an 18-year prison term, followed by a five-year extended licence period.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register without end and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order to restrict his activities.
Gibbs’s case highlights the serious judicial response to child abuse allegations, emphasizing lifelong registration and preventive measures to protect the public.
