March 2017 Pensioner sentenced to 11 years An Edenbridge pensioner who committed child sex offences during a period spanning four decades has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison. Freddy Walter, aged 73, repeatedly abused a child during the 1970s and 1980s, before he targeted another victim between 2008 and 2010. Walter, formerly of Stoneyfield, Edenbridge was arrested after concerns were raised to Kent Police in December 2015. He refused to comment during police interview but in court later pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault against a child, one count of gross indecency with a child, one count of assault by penetration, and to causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. On Friday (February 24), Walter appeared before Maidstone Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 11 years and two months in prison. He received an additional two years on licence as well as a Sexual Harm Prevention order, which makes it an offence for him to have contact with children.
