EAST KILBRIDE SEX OFFENDER NEIL PETERS BREACHES COURT ORDER AGAIN
A high-risk sex offender was back in the dock this week after breaching a court order.Neil Peters, aged 65, from East Kilbride, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
He admitted breaching a five-year sexual harm prevention order imposed on August 1 last year.
The court heard that Peters had deleted records of calls and text chats he’d had with another sex offender he’d met in prison.
He was jailed for 18 months for a sex offence and was released from HMP Addiewell on March 1 this year.
The prosecution revealed that Peters was visited by police monthly as he is classified as high risk.
On April 30, police found that Peters had been communicating with another sex offender.
The same day, officers visited his home, and during the inspection, they discovered messages between him and the other individual.
Peters admitted to police that he had met the other man in prison and had deleted some messages out of panic.
His legal team argued that he had found himself isolated after his release and did not instigate the contact.
The defence stated, “He did not realize at first that such communication would be frowned upon,” and that Peters had cooperated since the incident, understanding the need to keep everything on his phone.
The court also noted that Peters was subject to restrictions on his internet use and was banned from deleting records of his online activity when he was sentenced.
The judge deferred the sentencing to next month for background reports.
Peters, who was jailed for an earlier sex offence, has a history of regular police visits due to his classification as high risk.
The court emphasized the importance of adherence to the court order to protect the public.
