NAVEED ANSARI SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN BRADFORD AND LEEDS
A 46-year-old taxi driver from Bradford, Naveed Ansari, has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a disturbing attempt to arrange sexual activities with a 13-year-old girl. The incident came to light when Ansari, who resides on Beckside Road, was caught in a sting operation conducted by a group of paedophile hunters.
They set up a fake profile to communicate with him, and through this decoy platform, Ansari exchanged explicit messages that revealed his disturbing intentions.
During the communication, Ansari, at first claiming to be 20 years old, repeatedly insisted that the girl was only 13.
He acted in a manipulative manner, expressing a desire to treat her kindly and promising to buy her presents, including a dress and a bra.
He also sent her an image of a teddy bear he supposedly bought for her, pretending it was a gift.
These exchanges took place over social media platforms Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, where Ansari encouraged the girl to engage in sexual acts on herself and warned her to keep their conversations secret.
He expressed the belief that no one would suspect his true intentions, claiming he was just a taxi driver who could pick her up from school.
The evidence indicated that Ansari arranged to meet the girl in Leeds, specifically at Richmond Hill, on October 23 of the previous year.
He drove there with the explicit plan of meeting her for sexual purposes, fully aware of her age.
However, before the meeting could occur, members of the Net Justice online predator hunting group confronted him, detaining him and holding him until police officers arrived to arrest him.
During the subsequent police search of his vehicle, authorities discovered Viagra tablets, condoms, and a receipt for a playsuit he had purchased the night before.
Further investigation revealed indecent and extreme pornographic images on his mobile phone, adding additional weight to the charges.
Ansari was charged and pleaded guilty in court to several serious child sex offences.
These included attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity, attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, and attempting to communicate sexually with a child.
His defense team, represented by Katherine Robinson, attempted to mitigate the circumstances by highlighting his emotional struggles, stating that Ansari found it difficult to accept or acknowledge his guilt.
It was also mentioned that he had suffered significant personal losses, including his family, his professional reputation, and his employment.
Despite these arguments, the presiding judge, Recorder Tahir Khan KC, made it clear that the only appropriate sentence was immediate imprisonment.
The judge underscored that Ansari’s actions extended beyond mere talk, emphasizing that he had come prepared for the meeting with a child’s playsuit found in his car, reinforcing the seriousness of his intentions.
The court was also told that, even after pleading guilty, Ansari continued to deny responsibility for his crimes.
As part of his punishment, Ansari was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and will be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
This order explicitly prohibits any contact with girls under the age of 16, aiming to prevent any potential future offences and protect vulnerable minors from similar predatory behavior.
