NATHAN RUTLAND JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN ISLINGTON

In a case that has shocked the local community of Islington, Nathan Rutland, aged 37, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving a minor. The sentencing took place on Friday, 9 November at Blackfriars Crown Court, where Rutland received an 11-year prison sentence, complemented by an extended four-year licence period. He will also be subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

The court proceedings revealed that Rutland’s criminal conduct began in April when he initiated contact with a 13-year-old girl through Spotafriend, a social media app popular among teenagers. Over the course of their communication, Rutland continued to message her, eventually requesting they switch to Snapchat, where their conversations persisted. It was during this period that he groomed the young girl, manipulating her into a sexual relationship.

The situation escalated when Rutland met the girl at his residence in Islington, where he paid her £100 in exchange for sex. This act of exploitation was uncovered after the victim’s mother became suspicious and reported her concerns to the police on Wednesday, 25 April. The Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command (CASO) swiftly launched an investigation into the matter.

Following the investigation, Rutland was arrested at his home address in Islington on Thursday, 3 May. The very next day, he was formally charged with multiple offences, including three counts of sexual assault by penetration involving a minor, sexual grooming of a child, inciting a child into sexual activity, and five breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Rutland pleaded guilty to all charges on the day of his court appearance, leading to his conviction and subsequent sentencing.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predators operating within communities like Islington. Rutland’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who abuse their position of trust for sexual gratification.
