NATHAN ROE AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN BRADFORD
A man from Bradford with a disturbing history of grooming and attempting to engage in sexual activities with minors has been formally designated as a dangerous offender and received a substantial prison sentence.Nathan Roe, whose criminal actions include grooming underage boys via social media platforms and attempting to meet them for sexual purposes, is facing a lengthy incarceration after a series of serious offenses.
Roe's criminal behavior was initially pursued by authorities when he was prosecuted and convicted at Leeds Crown Court for crimes related to online grooming.
During that earlier case, he was found to have engaged in conversations with a police decoy, an undercover officer posing as a child online, which revealed his predatory inclinations.
Despite receiving a sentence of two years on a community order with several conditions, including mandatory attendance at a sex offender treatment program, his harmful behaviors persisted.
In a development that shocked the legal community and the public alike, a monitoring service played a crucial role in uncovering Roe’s continued predation.
Less than two weeks after his initial sentence, software installed on his computer detected sexually explicit messages directed toward one of his recent victims.
This evidence prompted immediate police intervention.
Today, Recorder Paul Reid KC delivered a stern judgment, sentencing Roe to an initial term of six years in prison for his crimes.
Recognizing the ongoing threat he poses, the judge also imposed an extended license period of four years, officially making Roe a 'dangerous offender.' The court’s assessments indicate that he presents a significant risk of causing serious harm.
The judge emphasized that Roe, who had been studying engineering, would be required to serve at least two-thirds of his prison term before becoming eligible for parole.
Roe pleaded guilty to multiple charges relating to the grooming and sexual communication with two teenage boys, whose identities are protected by law.
The offences include attempting to meet the minors for sexual activity, inciting a child to engage in sexual acts, and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.
As part of his sentencing, Roe will be compelled to register as a sex offender and adhere to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order designed to safeguard the community.
The judge described Roe’s manipulation of his victims as deeply disturbing, highlighting his predatory nature.
Addressing Roe’s attitude, Recorder Reid noted the defendant’s apparent lack of remorse.
He pointed out that Roe had gone as far as expressing hope that such illegal behaviors might someday be legal in the future—an illustration of his dangerous mindset.
The court proceedings revealed chilling details, including the fact that Roe had physically met one of his victims, during which he touched the boy’s bottom and hugged him.
These actions underscore the gravity of his misconduct and the severity of his sentencing, which aims to protect society from his harmful tendencies.
Roe's case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals who exploit vulnerable minors and the importance of rigorous law enforcement and monitoring to prevent further harm.
