August 2018 Pervert repeatedly exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl over seven-month period A Chelmsford van driver was detained by members of the public after exposing himself to a 12-year-old girl for the third time in just over six months. Nathan Grimsey, from Magwitch Close, appeared via video link at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court from prison in Norwich where he had been held in custody. The 20-year-old, who runs his own YouTube channel and creates vlogs about his life, previously admitted three separate cases of exposure, all involving the same child around Chelmsford and came before the court to learn his fate. The court heard how the first incident took place in December 2017, when Grimsey was seen in a bronze coloured van by a 12-year-old girl. Prosecuting, Danielle Jones described how the girl walked past the van and saw Grimsey sat alone, with his penis exposed masturbating. The girl saw this and ran away before the van then drove after her and blocked her path, causing her to turn and run home to her mum. The second incident took place on July 5 of this year, when the same girl was out with two of her friends. The court heard that the girl saw the same van parked halfway up the pavement. They cycled past and saw Grimsey with his penis exposed. Once again, he was masturbating. The girls approached a nearby individual and told them about what Grimsey was doing in his van, but when the individual went to approach Grimsey, he drove off. The third and final incident, which saw Grimsey surrounded and detained by a group of people, took place on July 15, when the same 12-year-old had gone out on her own. She saw the van come past and saw Grimsey with his penis exposed again. The girl went inside and told her mum, which led to a few people going outside to try and catch him. A number of people detained him and questioned him about what he had been doing. The court heard that when the police arrived at the scene, around 70 people were present. Grimsey had been assaulted, but no one present admitted to this and he did not identify who had assaulted him. He was initially taken to hospital for his injuries to be treated before being taken into custody. Judge Woollard went on to explain he had taken into account Grimsey’s early guilty plea along with the fact he had no previous convictions and his ADHD when deciding on the sentence. For each of the charges, Grimsey was sentenced to a six-month Youth Detention and Training Order (DTO) to run concurrently, suspended for two years. Grimsey was also ordered to attend 36 sessions at an accredited programme and to complete 120 hours of unpaid work over 12 months. He was also given a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement (RAH) and will be registered as a sex offender for seven years. A sexual harm prevention order was also put in place for five years. One of the requirements on this order is that he can’t go within 100 metres of a school or any place that is a meeting place for children. Grimsey was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for the next 12 months due to the use of his van in the three incidents. He was ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and £115 as a victim surcharge.
