JEALOUS HUSBAND GIVEN SUSPENDED SENTENCE AFTER STRANGLING WIFE
A jealous husband squeezed his wife's throat so hard she thought she was going to die, a court heard.Nathan Dolby had been "very jealous" and accused her of "seeing other men", said barrister Esther Harrison, prosecuting at Nottingham Crown Court.
His relationship with his wife came to an end last December.
In January, Dolby launched the attack.
He walked into her home and demanded to use her phone, claiming he had been chased by police.
He then grabbed her by the neck from behind and pushed her head down towards the stairs.
He squeezed her throat so forcefully that she thought she would die, according to Miss Harrison.
"He hit her six times to the face and head with her mobile phone," she added.
"He then grabbed her head and put her in a headlock, holding her there throughout." She managed to twist free and ran to a neighbour for help.
The victim described how she genuinely feared she would die during the incident, suffering scratches to her neck, soreness, and a cut inside her lip.
According to Miss Harrison, "she has since felt she was freed from a cage." Dolby, 30, from Roderick Street, Highbury Vale, has 37 offences on his record with 19 prior convictions.
He pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm to his wife.
In court, Judge Sally Hancox sentenced him to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years, and imposed 25 rehabilitation activity days and a requirement to attend a "building better relationships" programme.
A ten-year restraining order was also granted, forbidding him from contacting his wife or visiting her address.
