NASAR HUSSAIN SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IN DEWSBURY FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS IN KIRKLEES

A significant crackdown on historic sexual offenses in North Kirklees has culminated in the conviction and sentencing of multiple men involved in the abuse of young girls over a span of more than a decade. Among those sentenced is Nasar Hussain, a Dewsbury resident, who received an 18-year prison term after being found guilty of three counts of rape.

These convictions are part of a broader investigation known as Operation Tourway, which has been ongoing for several years and aims to uncover and prosecute non-recent sexual exploitation cases involving minors in the Kirklees area. The investigation has revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse stretching from 1999 to 2012, with the victims being young girls who suffered at the hands of various offenders.

Sentencing took place at Leeds Crown Court on April 26, where the court heard detailed accounts of the offenses committed by the accused. The proceedings resulted in the sentencing of 24 men, with the total combined prison time amounting to 346 years. The sentences ranged from as short as seven and a half years to over 30 years, reflecting the severity and number of offenses committed.

Among the convicted individuals, some received lengthy sentences due to the gravity of their crimes. For instance, Zafar Qayum, also from Dewsbury, was sentenced to 30 years after being convicted of six counts of rape, five counts of indecent assault, and three counts of aiding and abetting rape. Similarly, Asif Ali, from Batley, was handed a 24-year sentence for 14 counts of rape, along with additional charges related to child sexual activity and trafficking for sexual exploitation.

Other notable sentences include Khurum Raziq from Heckmondwike, who was sentenced to 22 years for eight offenses of rape, and Mohammed Tauseef Hanif from Dewsbury, who received nine and a half years for a single rape offense. The court also sentenced individuals such as Ali Shah, Moshin Nadat, and Sarfraz Miraf, each receiving sentences ranging from four and a half to ten years for various offenses including rape and attempted rape.

It is important to note that the investigation began in 2015 when safeguarding detectives started examining reports of historical abuse. The police conducted arrests across West Yorkshire starting in November 2018, and by December 2020, all suspects had been charged. The subsequent court proceedings, which took place between 2022 and 2024, have brought justice to the victims and highlighted the importance of ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation.

In addition to Nasar Hussain, other offenders such as Asif Ali, Mohammed Tauseef Hanif, and Ali Shah have been sentenced for their roles in these heinous crimes. The case underscores the persistent challenge faced by law enforcement agencies in addressing historic abuse cases and the critical need for vigilance and safeguarding measures to protect vulnerable children in communities like Dewsbury and across Kirklees.
