ANTHONY OAKES FROM DEWSBURY FACES JUSTICE OVER DOG ABUSE CASE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Dewsbury, Anthony Steven John Oakes, born on September 8, 1986, has been found guilty of heinous animal cruelty.

Residing on Edge Lane in Dewsbury, with the postal code WF12 0HB, Oakes was involved in a case that revealed the brutal suffering inflicted upon five dogs under his care.

Authorities, including West Yorkshire Police and the RSPCA, acted swiftly in February 2019 after receiving credible intelligence about injuries sustained by dogs at a property in Dewsbury.

Two warrants were executed at the residence, leading to the seizure of five Patterdale terriers.

The condition of these animals was appalling, with injuries predominantly on their faces, which were consistent with injuries caused by badger baiting—a cruel and illegal activity.

One of the dogs was found with a severely infected eye, which was so grave that it necessitated surgical removal.

The evidence collected pointed to a pattern of neglect and abuse, with Oakes and his partner, Amy Lauren Auty, being implicated in the failure to provide necessary veterinary care for the suffering animals.

The couple had previously operated a business called Oakes Outdoors Ltd, an outdoor clothing company that was dissolved in 2021.

Oakes pleaded guilty to charges of causing unnecessary suffering to the dogs by neglecting to take them to a veterinarian.

His remorse appeared minimal, as he was observed smirking and showed no signs of remorse during proceedings.

The court sentenced him to 200 hours of community service, imposed a fine of £500, and disqualified him from owning or keeping dogs for two years.

This ban expired in 2021.

All five dogs were subsequently handed over to the RSPCA for rehoming, ensuring they would no longer be subjected to such cruelty.

As of December 2022, Anthony Oakes has shifted his focus to the construction industry, now operating a business called Rendering Yorkshire Limited.

His new venture has a presence on Facebook, indicating a move away from his previous activities.

The case remains a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and animal rights organizations to combat cruelty in communities like Dewsbury.
