NAJEBULLAH MUEMAIN CAUGHT IN LEEDS TRAIN STATION PLOT TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that unfolded at Leeds train station, Najebullah Muemain, a 33-year-old man originally from Afghanistan and now residing in Leeds, was apprehended while attempting to meet a minor for sexual activity.The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and online watchdog groups to combat online grooming and child exploitation.
Muemain had been engaging in conversations with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl named Dani on Facebook for approximately two months.
During this period, he sent her numerous intimate photographs of himself and made arrangements to meet her in person with the intent of engaging in sexual acts.
Unbeknownst to Muemain, the profile he was communicating with was not a real teenager but a decoy operated by members of Stop UK, an online group dedicated to catching potential predators.
Leeds Crown Court heard on Tuesday that Muemain, who listed his address as Luxor View in Leeds, had sent a friend request to the decoy profile in July of the previous year.
After just three messages, he was informed that the girl was only 14 years old.
Prosecutor Ian Cook explained to the court that Muemain responded by claiming he was 27 and provided a false name, continuing the conversation with increasingly sexual content.
During the exchange, the decoy revealed that her mother was unaware of her Facebook activity, prompting Muemain to instruct her to delete the messages after their chat.
The messages grew more explicit, with Muemain asking the decoy to send pictures of herself and complimenting her appearance, expressing a desire to be her boyfriend.
Muemain also sent ten intimate photographs of himself and encouraged her to touch herself sexually, further escalating the grooming process.
Plans were made for the two to meet at Leeds train station on August 22, 2021.
In the lead-up to the meeting, Muemain discussed staying overnight with the girl and explicitly mentioned engaging in sexual intercourse.
On the day of the planned encounter, Muemain was met by members of Stop UK, which drew the attention of the British Transport Police.
He was promptly arrested, and officers discovered he possessed a blue sex aid tablet during the arrest.
During police interviews, Muemain claimed that he was only interested in chatting and making friends, asserting that he believed the decoy profile was a minor and that he was being trapped.
He denied any intention of engaging in sexual activity when they met and insisted that the sex aid was not intended for use with the decoy.
Following the investigation, Muemain pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.
His plea was entered during a hearing that included trial and preparation phases.
Judge Christopher Batty sentenced Muemain to four years in prison.
Additionally, he imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which prohibits Muemain from contacting children via social media or other online platforms, except for his own family members.
This order remains in effect until further notice, emphasizing the seriousness of the case and the ongoing efforts to protect minors from online predators.
