NADEEM BEGUM FROM MANCHESTER CONVICTED OF BRUTAL MURDER OF DAUGHTER-IN-LAW MASHAL ILYAS
Nadeem Begum, a man easily recognizable by a prominent ‘xXx’ tattoo on the back of his bald head, has been found guilty of the heinous murder of his daughter-in-law, Mashal Ilyas, in Manchester. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the circumstances surrounding her death, which was characterized by extreme violence and brutality.According to the evidence presented, Mashal was strangled within her own residence, a tragic act that ultimately led to her death. Her body was discovered at the bottom of the stairs, indicating a violent struggle. Medical examinations confirmed the severity of her injuries, including bruising on her neck and face, a broken fingernail, and blood on her brain surface. The post-mortem report concluded that her death was caused by pressure applied to her neck, resulting in upper airway obstruction, which suffocated her.
During the attack, Mashal fought desperately for her life. Evidence such as scratches on Begum’s neck, along with DNA swabs, confirmed his involvement. Additionally, investigators found a healing scab on his neck, suggesting recent contact or injury. Despite Begum’s claims that he was asleep at the time of the incident, the jury was unconvinced. His phone activity was scrutinized, revealing extensive use of TikTok, and images recovered from his device indicated a disturbing fascination with strangulation restraints, raising questions about his mental state and intentions.
Testimonies painted a picture of a controlling and authoritarian household environment in Manchester. Mashal described Begum’s behavior as oppressive, likening him to “an executioner king if it’s not right.” It was also revealed that Begum had a history of anger issues, for which he sought medical help. His controlling nature extended to many aspects of Mashal’s life, and she had expressed feelings of dissatisfaction and being trapped within a toxic environment. The court heard that the household was marked by a toxic dynamic, with Begum’s obsession with TikTok and his domineering attitude culminating in the tragic death of Mashal.
As the trial concluded, the court announced that Begum would face sentencing later this year. Given the severity of his actions, he is expected to receive a life sentence. The case has shocked the community in Manchester, highlighting the dangers of toxic relationships and unchecked anger, and raising questions about the influence of social media on violent behavior.
