DARLINGTON MAN GETS COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER PUNCHING GIRLFRIEND DURING DRUNKEN RAGE
A violent offender named Myles Carter, aged 26, was involved in an incident where he punched his girlfriend in the face during a drunken episode at her Darlington home. The incident occurred after Carter reacted angrily when asked to quieten down because her young child was sleeping nearby. Court proceedings revealed that Carter had been in a relationship with his neighbor and would occasionally stay at her residence. Prosecutor Paul Doney stated that Carter was intoxicated that evening and began ranting about personal annoyances. When asked to keep his voice down, Carter continued to raise his voice, leading the woman to ask him to leave. During the altercation, Carter kicked her in the lower back while she was looking away, and when she pushed him back, he punched her with a clenched fist, causing bleeding to her mouth. He also grabbed her shoulder, leaving a mark, before leaving. Carter pleaded guilty to assault by beating on arrest. The court sentenced him to an 18-month community order with 15 days of rehabilitation activity and a four-month alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation and £199 towards court costs. The judge, Suzanne Chivers, expressed concern over his alcohol issues but acknowledged the relationship's termination and lack of prior incidents between them.
