MOHAMMED ISMAIL BOLTON TRAIN PERVERT SENTENCED TO 12 MONTHS IN PRISON
In May 2019, a disturbing case of sexual misconduct on public transportation unfolded involving Mohammed Ismail, a man from Bolton with a troubling criminal history. The incident came to light after an extensive investigation by authorities, which included the analysis of CCTV footage and a media appeal that ultimately led to his identification and arrest.
Mohammed Ismail, aged 39 and residing on Hilden Street in Bolton, was found guilty of molesting two women during separate train journeys.
Despite denying the charges and claiming mistaken identity during his trial, the evidence against him was compelling enough for the magistrates to convict him and refer the case to the Crown Court for sentencing.
The court heard that on both occasions, Ismail deliberately sat directly beside his victims, despite the availability of other seats within the train carriage.
The first incident occurred during a journey from Manchester to Preston, where Ismail sat next to a woman and gradually moved closer, effectively pinning her against the window.
Prosecutor Adam Watkins described how Ismail began rubbing his own thigh and then proceeded to rub hers, causing her to feel extremely uncomfortable.
The woman, feeling threatened, requested to move and subsequently disembarked at Horwich Parkway station.
Approximately a month later, Ismail committed a similar act against a teenage girl traveling from Manchester to Westhoughton in Bolton.
Once again, he squeezed into her space as she sat by the window.
She attempted to distance herself, but found herself cornered.
Ismail repeated his previous behavior by rubbing his thigh and then her thigh, all while seemingly gazing directly at her.
When she tried to brush his hand away, he persisted, placing his finger on her leg to mime a sexual act.
Horrified, she texted her sister for help and asked if she could be picked up from Bolton station.
As she moved to escape, she broke down in tears.
A fellow passenger briefly challenged Ismail, but he did not respond.
Following these incidents, detectives from the British Transport Police conducted a thorough investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and leveraging a media appeal that led to Ismail’s identification.
He was arrested in August and denied the allegations.
It was revealed that Ismail has prior convictions related to sexual offences, including assault on a female under 16 and gross indecency, which involved an incident in a public toilet.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Alan Conrad QC emphasized the severity of Ismail’s actions.
He stated that the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence was appropriate.
Addressing Ismail directly, the judge remarked, “On two separate occasions, you targeted female passengers who were travelling alone on the train.
Both were vulnerable, and one was particularly young.
This was prolonged touching by you in circumstances that must have been extremely distressing for each of your victims.
Women travelling alone on public transport deserve and need protection, and the courts will do all they can to afford that protection.” As a result, Mohammed Ismail was sentenced to 12 months in prison, marking a significant step in addressing the misconduct and reinforcing the importance of safety and respect for women in public spaces.
