MOHAMMED IMRAN IBARAR AND HUDDERSFIELD GROOMING GANG MEMBERS SENTENCED FOR REPEATED OFFENCES IN WEST YORKSHIRE
A group of five men, all previously convicted for their involvement in a notorious grooming gang operating in Huddersfield, have been found guilty of committing additional serious offences. The men—Abdul Rehman, Mohammed Kammer, Nahman Mohammed, Wiqas Mahmud, and Mohammed Imran Ibrar—were all convicted during a trial held at Leeds Crown Court. Their crimes, which spanned several years, involved the abuse of a young girl between 2005 and 2010, with the abuse beginning when the victim was just 14 years old.Following their convictions, the men faced sentencing at Bradford Crown Court on Thursday. The charges against them included heinous acts such as rape and the supply of drugs, highlighting the severity and depravity of their actions. The investigation into child sexual abuse in Huddersfield was part of a larger operation known as Operation Tendersea, conducted by West Yorkshire Police. This extensive inquiry examined offences that occurred over a period from 1995 to 2013, revealing a disturbing pattern of exploitation and abuse.
Operation Tendersea has resulted in the imprisonment of individuals with a combined total of over 500 years behind bars. The recent trial, which concluded on 9 February, marked the second time these men have been convicted, as some had previously served time for their crimes. The convictions underscore the persistent efforts of law enforcement to bring justice to victims of such heinous acts.
Among those sentenced, Abdul Rehman, aged 36 from Sheffield, received a prison term of three years and eleven months after being convicted of two offences related to facilitating child sex offences and supplying drugs. Mohammed Kammer, 38, from Huddersfield, was sentenced to seven years and six months for three rape offences and one trafficking offence for sexual exploitation. Nahman Mohammed, aged 37 and also from Huddersfield, received a sentence of seven years after being convicted of two rape offences and trafficking for sexual exploitation.
Wiqas Mahmud, aged 42 from Huddersfield, was sentenced to six years and three months following his conviction for a single rape offence. Mohammed Imran Ibrar, aged 38 and a Huddersfield resident, was sentenced to five years for sexual assault and one rape offence. However, due to time already served, Ibrar will serve a reduced sentence of three years and six months.
These convictions are part of a broader crackdown on child sexual exploitation in the region. Since the inception of Operation Tendersea in 2018, 42 men have been convicted, with some facing multiple trials. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Thornes of West Yorkshire Police described the operation as a significant investigation into what he termed “truly evil sexual abuse.” He emphasized that the victims were vulnerable young teenage girls subjected to utterly sickening acts by individuals whose behaviour rendered them unfit to walk the streets.
