LUTON POLICE OFFICER DISMISSED FOR MISCONDUCT AND FAILURE TO SUPPORT DOMESTIC ABUSE VICTIMS

A police officer named DC Mohammed Hussain, based at Luton Police Station, was dismissed with immediate effect following a gross misconduct hearing. The hearing found that he failed to adequately support a woman seeking a restraining order against her partner by not conducting thorough investigations into alleged breaches of a non-molestation order. Additionally, he breached standards of behaviour related to fairness, impartiality, respect, and courtesy by making inappropriate comments to victims. The misconduct included failing to conduct proper inquiries and making inappropriate remarks, which was deemed a serious violation of professional conduct. Following the case, Detective Chief Superintendent Dee Perkins, head of crime and public protection at Bedfordshire Police, stated: 'Mohammed Hussain’s actions are totally against our policies and values. He tried to reflect his own misguided beliefs onto the people he should have been protecting. As a result, his position with the force was entirely untenable, and I hope this case reassures victims that we will not tolerate such behaviour.' The case concluded on December 3, 2020, after a four-day hearing at King’s House in Bedford. The police emphasized their commitment to supporting victims of domestic abuse and highlighted that victims have been engaged, supported, and safeguarded by their dedicated teams, with positive actions taken against offenders. The force encourages victims to come forward and assures them that they will be believed, offering support and advice through various channels.
