NORTHAMPTON SEX OFFENDER MOHAMMED HAQUE SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR VIOLENT ASSAULTS

Northampton man Mohammed Haque, aged 21, who was convicted of carrying out two extremely violent sexual assaults on women in Northampton, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

He appeared at Northampton Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to five charges related to two separate attacks, one in November 2014 and another in January 2016.

The court heard that Haque, employed at Morrisons in the town centre, left work shortly before 5 am on November 10 and traveled to the Racecourse area.

There, he targeted a woman in her 50s, who was listening to music on her iPod.

He dragged her into the park, subjected her to a violent sexual assault, and after she attempted to escape, he sat on her back and punched her in the face.

The attack lasted around two to three minutes, and DNA evidence was recovered from her coat.

The second assault occurred on January 25 when Haque forced his way into an elderly woman's home in Westone, Northampton.

He admitted that he chose the victim's address because he was 'driving around the town' looking for a victim and knew she was a pensioner.

He initially demanded £20 and then forced her into a spare room, sexually assaulting her after threatening her with a metal pole.

DNA evidence was also collected from the scene, and police linked the scene to Haque through DNA matching a sample taken from him at his address.

Haque pleaded guilty to five charges, including sexual assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence, and robbery.

Judge Michael Fowler sentenced him to 11 years in prison with an additional four years on licence, and he is expected to serve approximately two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for parole.

The judge described the offences as 'truly evil' and noted that Haque posed a 'serious risk' to the public due to the nature of his crimes.

Detective Inspector Lee McBride, who led the investigation, expressed satisfaction with the sentence and praised the victims and their families for their support, highlighting Haque's targeting of vulnerable women and acknowledging the police's efforts in securing his conviction.
