MOHAMMED DARWEESH JAILED FOR RAPE IN NOTTINGHAM'S FOREST RECREATION GROUND

A convicted sex offender, Mohammed Darweesh, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of raping a teenage boy in Nottingham. The incident took place late at night on July 18, 2024, within the grounds of the Forest Recreation Ground, a popular park in Nottingham known for its natural scenery and recreational facilities.

According to reports, the victim, who was only 17 years old at the time, was out for a walk around 11:30 pm when he encountered Darweesh, a 24-year-old man. The young man initially believed Darweesh was intoxicated, as he appeared to be drunk and was behaving in a manner that was aggressive and persistent. Despite the victim’s attempts to distance himself, Darweesh continued to block his path, creating a tense and threatening situation.

During the confrontation, the victim believed that Darweesh was armed with a knife, which added to his fear and sense of danger. Under duress, the teenager agreed to follow Darweesh away from the main path, where the sexual assault occurred. Following the assault, Darweesh fled the scene on foot, taking with him the victim’s watch and a £10 note. The victim managed to alert a passer-by, who was driving a van nearby. The passer-by pursued Darweesh in his vehicle, and during the chase, Darweesh dropped the stolen watch on the ground.

In a subsequent incident, Darweesh was found lying injured in Mapperley Road around 4 am the next morning after members of the public noticed him in the road. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which were believed to have resulted from being struck by a vehicle. The police launched an investigation into the incident, and forensic evidence, along with other inquiries, led to Darweesh being identified as the suspect.

Following his recovery, Darweesh was arrested after being discharged from Queen’s Medical Centre. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including rape and attempted rape. His criminal record was further established through forensic analysis and witness statements.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, April 1, Darweesh appeared for sentencing. He pleaded guilty to the charges, and the court sentenced him to an extended term of nine and a half years in prison. In addition to his incarceration, Darweesh, who has no fixed address, will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order upon his release. This order aims to restrict his activities and protect vulnerable individuals from potential harm in the future.
