MOHAMMED ATIF KHAN, 37, SENTENCED IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD CASE
A 37-year-old man named Mohammed Atif Khan, who abducted and sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl in Hemel Hempstead, now faces a jail sentence.Khan kidnapped the teen, who was waiting for her parents after a night out, on Saturday, August 28, last year.
CCTV footage showed Khan reversing his car after passing the girl in the town centre, then parking and forcing her into his vehicle.
He drove her approximately ten miles away before committing the assault.
After the attack, Khan returned the traumatized teenager to Hemel Hempstead, where she managed to get back to the town centre and was later found by her family.
She bravely confided in her relatives, prompting them to contact authorities.
On Thursday, March 17, Khan was convicted at Luton Crown Court of four charges: kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence, rape, oral rape, and sexual assault by penetration.
Police praised the "incredible courage" of the victim for coming forward and providing testimony.
An extensive investigation followed, during which detectives examined numerous hours of Automatic Number Plate Recognition and CCTV footage, which led to identifying Khan’s vehicle — a white Volkswagen Polo registered to his Chesham address.
Khan was arrested four days after the crimes and later charged, though he maintained his innocence, forcing the victim to give evidence in court.
Last week, a jury found him guilty, and he is currently remanded in custody ahead of sentencing scheduled for May 13 at the same court.
Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins commented, "News of this stranger attack caused understandable and considerable concern in the community at the time.
So, I am pleased to share that we have managed to secure a conviction on behalf of the victim." She praised the victim's resilience, noting she received support from specially trained officers and partner organizations during the process.
Jenkins described Khan as a "dangerous sexual predator" who exploited the situation when he encountered the girl alone.
She added, "He is now behind bars as we await the outcome of his sentencing next month."
