BRADFORD BARBER MOHAMMED ABID SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN BRADFORD
In June 2016, a disturbing case unfolded in Bradford involving Mohammed Abid, a 49-year-old barber whose actions led to his imprisonment for a heinous sexual assault on a young girl. The incident took place at Sabir’s Hairdresser, located on Whetley Lane in Bradford, where Abid was working alone on the afternoon of Boxing Day in 2014.
According to court proceedings, the young girl, who was merely passing by the shop on an errand for her mother, was approached by Abid, who lured her inside with a seemingly innocent gesture.
He then offered her a lollipop, an act that was later described by the judge as a calculated move to gain her trust.
Once inside, Abid subjected the girl to a sexual assault, during which he placed his hand on her stomach and then moved his hand down her trousers, touching her intimate areas and her bottom.
The girl, showing remarkable bravery, managed to pull up her underwear and escape from the shop.
She immediately informed her cousin and her mother about the assault, providing crucial testimony that led to Abid’s conviction.
The jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting the girl while he was working alone at the Bradford hair salon.
During the sentencing at Bradford Crown Court, Judge Peter Hunt commended the young victim for her courage in resisting further harm and fleeing the scene.
He emphasized that Abid’s actions were premeditated, noting that he had planned to sexually assault the girl, as evidenced by his deliberate gesture of giving her a lollipop before the assault.
Judge Hunt stated, “The only reason that the child went into the shop was because she saw you beckon her into the premises.
You had formed a plan to touch her sexually.
Before you assaulted her, you gave her a lollipop.
This was for no reason other than your own gratification.
Out of the blue, you placed a hand on her tummy and moved it round on to her bare bottom.
You tried to get your hand further and further down inside her knickers but she had the good sense to resist your assault by tugging her underclothes back into position and by running off.
It is to your credit that you did not try to detain her after she resisted, or do any more harm at that point.” Following his conviction, Abid was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to protect children from future harm and restricts his contact with minors.
He is also required to sign the sex offenders’ register until further notice.
Abid’s address was listed as Dickens Street, West Bowling, Bradford, and he showed no emotion as he was led away from the court, protesting his innocence during the trial.
