A man from Northampton, Mitchell Mills, aged 28, has been sentenced to over three years in prison and received a 10-year restraining order after he threatened to kill a woman he had repeatedly assaulted and harassed.

Mills was reported to Northamptonshire Police in July 2023 following a breach of a non-molestation order that prohibited him from approaching his former partner.

During police interviews, the woman disclosed multiple incidents from 2019 to 2021 where Mills either assaulted her or threatened her life.

As investigations proceeded, Mills faced charges for breaching the non-molestation order.

He admitted to this breach in Northampton Magistrates’ Court on July 6, 2023, resulting in an 18-week jail sentence and a restraining order that barred him from contacting her or visiting her residence.

Despite this, Mills resumed harassment after his release in November 2023, calling her over 70 times in a few days, loitering near her home, and issuing threats to her and her partner.

He was subsequently re-arrested and charged with harassment creating fear of violence related to incidents between November 2019 and January 2021, as well as breaching the restraining order during his conduct in November 2023.

Mills, from Greenfield Road, Abington, pleaded guilty to the charges.

On August 1, Northampton Crown Court sentenced him to 40 months in prison and imposed a 10-year restraining order to prevent further contact or approach towards the woman.
