WALLINGFORD MAN GETS LIFE FOR BRUTAL WIFE STABBING
Mihai Hurmuz-Irimia, aged 29, received a life sentence in prison after being convicted of the heinous murder of his wife, Katie Hurmuz-Irimia, in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.Court proceedings revealed that following the stabbing, he contacted the police and admitted, "I think I've killed my wife," while describing the injuries as stabbing her "all over her body." The judge emphasized that the attack involved multiple aggravating factors, including the use of two knives and a prolonged assault.
It is estimated that Katie sustained approximately 171 stab wounds or cuts, mainly on her neck, head, and back.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Ian Pringle KC pointed out that Mihai exhibited extreme violence and had ingested cocaine prior to the attack.
Post-murder, he remained remarkably composed, watching television and showering before making a composed call to emergency services.
Bloodstains were discovered in their home, including on the TV remote and even on their pet dog.
The incident was preceded by a history of domestic disputes, threats, and previous allegations of assault and threats directed at her family.
Katie’s family described her as a kind and caring individual who was dedicated as a mother and looked out for others.
Her mother, Hazel Margaret Chalk, shared her grief, stating she wakes daily with thoughts of Katie, and believed her daughter had endured immense suffering.
Mihai's minimum term before becoming eligible for parole is set at 21 years.
