MICHAEL WATERS FROM BRIDGWATER: HORRIFIC CHILD SEX OFFENDER TARGETING VICTIMS IN LIVERPOOL AND BEYOND
In a chilling case that has shocked the community, Michael Waters, a convicted child killer and sex offender with a long history of heinous crimes, has been brought to justice once again. Waters, who previously resided in Bridgwater, Somerset, and was also known to have connections in Liverpool, was the subject of a detailed investigation that uncovered a disturbing pattern of abuse spanning several decades.Waters, now 78 years old, was first convicted of the murder of a nine-year-old girl in Liverpool in 1959. He served a decade behind bars for that crime before being released. His criminal record also includes a recall to prison in the late 1980s. However, it was only after his release in 2015 that authorities intensified their efforts to investigate a series of sexual offences linked to him. This led to a comprehensive two-year investigation that ultimately resulted in his conviction.
One of the most harrowing revelations came from a woman, now in her 50s, who bravely came forward to recount her traumatic experiences as a child victim of Waters during the 1970s. She explained that she carried an orange with her at all times, a precaution she adopted after discovering that Waters was allergic to fruit. Her fear of him was so profound that she would peel the orange in an attempt to deter his advances whenever he approached her. The victim described how Waters preyed on her innocence, taking advantage of her vulnerability and subjecting her to sexual assault at every opportunity.
The court heard that Waters was given a life sentence after being found guilty of nine counts of sexual offences, including attempted rape. It is anticipated that Waters will spend the remainder of his life in prison, given the severity of his crimes and his age. Detective Constable Andy Anstey emphasized the danger Waters poses, stating, “Waters is an extremely dangerous individual who, since the age of 21, has committed inexplicably horrendous crimes, showing no remorse and going on to re-offend. Having already served 30 years behind bars previously, and now in his late 70s, I’m confident that Waters will spend the rest of his life in jail, which is undoubtedly where he belongs due to the danger he poses.”
The detective further described the victim’s ordeal, noting that she was under 14 when the abuse began. She was terrified of Waters, who exploited her innocence and repeatedly assaulted her whenever he had the opportunity. The victim recounted a specific incident where she believed she narrowly escaped being raped, as Waters was disturbed during the assault, preventing him from completing his heinous act.
In addition to the primary victim, another woman from West Yorkshire also came forward, providing further details about Waters’ criminal activities. Waters, who previously lived in Bridgwater, Somerset, pleaded guilty to the charges during an earlier court hearing, bringing a measure of closure to the long-standing case. The community and authorities alike hope that this conviction will serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and justice in protecting vulnerable individuals from predators like Waters.
