BLACKPOOL MAN MICHAEL WAGSTAFFE CAUGHT BY PEADOPHILE HUNTERS ON PROM FOR KISS AND CUDDLE
In August 2021, a disturbing incident unfolded in Blackpool involving a man named Michael Wagstaffe, also known as Michael Williams, who narrowly escaped immediate imprisonment after being caught in a sting operation conducted by vigilant child protection activists.The incident took place along the popular promenade in Blackpool, where Wagstaffe, aged 53, believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl online with the intent of engaging in inappropriate activities.
According to court proceedings held at Blackpool Magistrates Court, Wagstaffe had been engaging in conversations with what he thought was a young girl, during which he instructed her to strip and send nude photographs of herself.
The conversation escalated to the point where Wagstaffe made arrangements to meet the girl in person on the Blackpool Promenade, with the specific intention of sharing a kiss and a cuddle, which he believed would lead to further sexual activity.
Unbeknownst to Wagstaffe, the individual he was communicating with was not a minor but a decoy operated by the Fleetwood Enforcers UK, an anti-paedophile group dedicated to exposing individuals seeking to exploit children.
The decoy was an adult posing as a young girl to lure potential offenders into a trap.
After confirming the meeting, Wagstaffe was confronted outside his residence on Lytham Road in South Shore by members of the vigilante group.
The confrontation was recorded and subsequently streamed live on Facebook, attracting hundreds of viewers who watched as Wagstaffe was questioned and scrutinized by the group members.
The police arrived shortly after the confrontation, leading to his arrest.
During police interviews, Wagstaffe admitted to the officers that he had indeed arranged to meet a child for sexual purposes.
He also disclosed a disturbing interest in watching young girls in school uniforms, revealing a pattern of inappropriate thoughts and intentions.
The court heard that Wagstaffe used the alias 'Mike Williams' while prowling social media platforms in search of potential victims.
In court, Wagstaffe pleaded guilty to charges of arranging to meet a 14-year-old girl for sexual activity and attempting to engage in sexual conduct.
As part of his sentencing, he was given a one-year jail sentence, which was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs amounting to £241 and was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for seven years, restricting his access to certain online platforms and activities to prevent further offending.
