MICHAEL TREMBLE FROM CARLISLE AND WORKINGTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN CUMBRIA

In a significant case that has shocked the local communities of Carlisle and Workington, Michael Tremble, aged 46, has been sentenced to a five-year prison term after being found guilty of multiple child sex crimes committed over a span of more than ten years. The sentencing took place at Carlisle Crown Court, where the court also imposed a 20-year period of legal restrictions on Tremble, aimed at preventing any further harm and monitoring his conduct post-release.

Details of the case revealed that Tremble’s criminal activities involved two young victims, with one suffering lasting psychological trauma. One of the victims, a girl who was just nine years old at the time of the assault, experienced severe emotional distress, including nightmares that persisted long after the incident. The court heard that her suffering was compounded by the fact that Tremble’s denials of the crimes offered her no solace or reassurance, as the judge emphasized during sentencing.

At the time of his arrest and trial, Tremble was residing on William Street in Great Clifton, Workington. It was also established that he had previously lived on Thomson Street, off London Road, in Carlisle. His appearance before the court followed a trial in which he was convicted of four charges but acquitted of a fifth. Tremble maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, denying all allegations against him.

The court found Tremble guilty of one count of indecent assault, two counts of indecency with a child, and one count of sexual assault. He was, however, acquitted of a separate charge of indecent assault involving a different child. The crimes for which Tremble was convicted spanned several years, with the earliest offense dating back to December 31, 1999, just before the turn of the millennium. This initial incident involved a girl aged nine. Additional offenses took place in the early 2000s, involving a different girl, and included an assault on the same girl when she was 16 years old.

Prosecutor Brendan Burke presented a statement to the court, describing the profound impact Tremble’s second victim endured. Burke recounted that she described Tremble as “sick, horrible, selfish and twisted,” and detailed her suffering from recurring nightmares and the relentless reliving of traumatic moments. She reportedly felt trapped in her sleep, with no escape from her memories.

In mitigation, Laura Nash highlighted Tremble’s mental health issues, suggesting that these problems may have contributed to his offending behavior. She also expressed that Tremble was “absolutely terrified” of the impending custodial sentence, indicating his anxiety and distress about the punishment he faced.

Judge Barbara Forrester sentenced Tremble to five years in prison. Additionally, she ordered that he be subject to a sexual offences prevention order for a period of 20 years. This order is designed to impose conditions on Tremble’s future conduct and living arrangements, aiming to protect the community and prevent any further offenses. The case underscores the ongoing concerns surrounding child protection and the importance of holding offenders accountable for their actions in the Cumbria region.
