MICHAEL TODD FROM GATESHEAD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST CHILDREN
In a disturbing series of criminal acts, Michael Todd, a resident of Gateshead, has been convicted and sentenced for multiple sexual offenses involving young girls.The incidents span from 2016 to 2017 and include heinous acts committed against children as young as seven years old.
In June 2016, Todd was found to have sexually assaulted two young girls while they were asleep.
The victims, aged between seven and nine, were subjected to inappropriate touching while unconscious.
One of the victims, aged between seven and eight, was assaulted when Todd attempted to pull down her trousers, and on another occasion, he molested her over her clothing.
Another girl, aged nine, was also sexually assaulted over her clothing while she was asleep, but the assault was interrupted when she woke up.
These disturbing incidents led to Todd's arrest, and he was subsequently released on bail while investigations continued.
While on bail, Todd's offending did not cease.
He targeted a 14-year-old girl, whom he had plied with alcohol—lager and vodka—before following her to the bathroom and sexually assaulting her.
A few days later, he provided her with vodka and coke, encouraging her to drink it in one go, and also gave her lager.
When she became sick and went to the bathroom, Todd followed her and again molested her over her clothes.
These actions further compounded his criminal record.
Michael Todd, aged 37 at the time of sentencing, was brought before Newcastle Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual assault—four involving girls under 13 and two involving a girl under 16.
The court heard that Todd had no previous convictions and was considered to have been well regarded prior to these offenses.
Despite this, his actions have led to a significant prison sentence.
He was sentenced to three years in prison, and as part of his punishment, he was ordered to sign the sex offender register and was placed under a sexual harm prevention order.
The court emphasized the severity of his crimes and the need to protect the community from further offenses.
Robin Patton, representing Todd, stated during the proceedings that before these crimes, Todd was regarded as a hardworking and industrious individual who received praise for his character.
Patton also noted that pleading guilty resulted in Todd losing his home and family connections, highlighting the personal toll of his convictions.
The case underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring offenders to justice in Gateshead and beyond.
