MICHAEL ROBERTS AND HIS SHOCKING SEXUAL OFFENSES IN NORTHAMPTON
A 73-year-old man, Michael Roberts, has been sentenced to a punitive period in prison following a series of serious breaches linked to a sexual harm prevention order issued against him.Roberts, who is also known by the alias Michael Fairy, was found guilty of repeatedly violating the conditions set by this court order, which was intended to monitor and restrict his activities due to his previous sexual offenses.
The incident that led to his latest sentencing involved Roberts booking tickets for a theatre production at a school in Northampton that featured children as young as six years old.
It was discovered that he used the fictitious name, Michael Fairy, during the booking process, thereby breaching the terms of his sexual harm prevention order.
This act of deception further highlighted his disregard for legal restrictions aimed at safeguarding children and the community.
According to Northamptonshire Police, Roberts attended multiple performances in May 2022, which included children aged between six and eighteen.
His presence at these events, particularly under a false name, represented a clear violation of the conditions set by the order designed to prevent him from engaging with children or attending events where minors are present.
His actions demonstrated a troubling pattern of non-compliance and an attempt to evade detection.
In addition to his attendance at shows, Roberts also failed to fulfill his legal obligation to notify authorities of his whereabouts and activities as required by law.
When he was arrested, Roberts questioned officers about why he had not been reminded to complete his notification responsibilities, showing a continued disregard for his legal obligations.
Initially, on August 2, magistrates sentenced Roberts to a 16-week suspended imprisonment, indicating that he would serve this sentence if he committed further offenses or breached conditions within that period.
However, just three days following this suspended sentence, Roberts was once again brought before the court due to another breach.
This subsequent violation led to a much more severe punishment.
The court ultimately sentenced Roberts to an additional year in prison, combined with the previous 16-week sentence from his earlier breaches.
This renewed decision underscores the seriousness of his repeated failures to comply with court orders related to his past sex offenses.
Commenting on the case, Detective Constable Gemma Glover, who is part of the police’s specialist team managing sexual and violent offenders, expressed her satisfaction with the outcome.
“Michael Roberts is a dangerous sex offender, so I am pleased that he is now behind bars and away from the streets of Northamptonshire,” Glover stated.
She emphasized the rigorous efforts of the law enforcement team, noting that their daily work involves the close monitoring of offenders and swift action when breaches occur.
Glover also issued a strong warning, saying, “I hope this case serves as a warning to Roberts and other sex offenders that our processes are thorough and relentless.
We will always find those attempting to go under the radar and ensure they are held accountable for their actions.”
