MICHAEL PATTERSON SENT CHILD ABUSE IMAGES FROM MIDDLESBROUGH TO PAEDOPHILES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Middlesbrough, Michael Patterson, aged 53, was sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered his involvement in the distribution and possession of highly disturbing child abuse images.

The case came to light in February 2016 when Cleveland Police acted swiftly following credible information indicating Patterson’s engagement in the sharing of illicit material.

Law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Patterson’s residence on Roseberry Road in Middlesbrough.

During the raid, they confiscated his laptop and desktop computer, which became crucial evidence in the investigation.

A thorough examination of these devices revealed a horrifying collection of 617 images and videos, some of which were classified as the most severe Category A material.

These included images of young girls aged between two and ten years old, depicting sexual abuse of the most grievous nature.

Prosecutor Paul Reid addressed the court, explaining that police had been alerted to the fact that Patterson’s computer had been actively used to transmit these illegal images to other individuals involved in similar criminal activities.

It was established that Patterson had amassed these images on a specific file, which he admitted he used for sexual gratification.

The investigation further uncovered that Patterson had engaged in conversations with other men interested in child abuse, during which he had sent them the illicit images.

Additionally, he had posed as a child himself to exchange messages with minors, a tactic that underscores the extent of his disturbing behavior.

During the court proceedings, Patterson’s defense lawyer, Robert Mochrie, highlighted the contents of a pre-sentence report compiled from an interview with a probation officer.

Mochrie described the report as “desperate reading,” indicating the gravity of Patterson’s actions.

He emphasized that Patterson had made efforts to communicate with children and had shown a degree of candor about his conduct, which he suggested could be a step toward rehabilitation.

Mochrie pointed out that Patterson was married and had admitted guilt at the earliest opportunity, which he argued should be taken into account.

However, the presiding judge, Recorder of Middlesbrough Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, delivered a stern warning to Patterson about the broader implications of his actions.

The judge reminded him that viewing such images contributes directly to the suffering of real children and fuels a market that perpetuates this heinous crime.

The judge emphasized that the most serious aspect of Patterson’s case was the distribution of the images, which exacerbates the harm caused.

Ultimately, Patterson was sentenced to 20 months in prison.

He was also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that prohibits him from accessing the internet or any digital devices that could be used for similar offenses.

Furthermore, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.

Patterson’s guilty plea to charges of making, possessing, and distributing indecent images of children, committed between March 2013 and July 2014, led to this severe punishment, reflecting the seriousness with which the court views such crimes.
