MICHAEL MULLEN GIPPON LEEDS: HORRIFIC CHILD KILLER AND RAPIST ESCALATES CRIMES

In a chilling series of events that have shocked the community of Gipton and Leeds, Michael Mullen has been linked to multiple heinous crimes involving vulnerable children. The disturbing case first came to light in July 2007, when it was revealed that Mullen, a man residing in Gipton, Leeds, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal rape and murder of his two-year-old niece, Casey Leigh Mullen. The details of this tragic case paint a picture of a man capable of extreme violence and predatory behavior.

It was reported that Mullen, aged 21 at the time of sentencing, had violently attacked his young niece while she was peacefully sleeping in her home. The court heard how he then strangled the toddler, an act described by the judge as both heinous and unforgivable. The incident took place in February, and the young girl was found smeared in blood at her residence on Oak Tree Crescent, a short distance from Mullen’s home on Lawrence Road, Gipton. The severity of the crime prompted a swift arrest, and Mullen was taken into custody shortly after the discovery.

During the sentencing at Leeds Crown Court, Judge Mr. Justice Simon condemned the acts, stating, “The rape and murder of this little girl by someone she trusted and loved were appalling crimes.” The judge further referenced a psychiatric report that characterized Mullen as a “very dangerous man,” capable of committing lethal, violent, and sexual offenses against children, with a high likelihood of continued dangerous behavior in the future.

Adding to the disturbing nature of Mullen’s criminal history, it was disclosed that in 2003, when he was just 17 years old, he faced accusations of raping a 12-year-old girl on school playing fields in Meanwood, Leeds. Mullen admitted to having sexual relations with the girl but claimed that she had consented to the act. This earlier incident cast a long shadow over his character and criminal record.

However, in a surprising turn of events, the charges related to the 2003 incident were dropped on the very day Mullen was scheduled to stand trial. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) explained that new evidence had emerged shortly before the trial, which significantly undermined the credibility of the complainant’s testimony. The CPS stated, “In 2003, Michael Mullen had been charged with two offences of rape of a 12-year-old girl on the advice of the CPS. The CPS keeps cases under constant review, and immediately before the trial, new evidence came to light which seriously undermined the prosecution case against the defendant.”

They further clarified that the new evidence revealed inconsistencies in the complainant’s account, which made it impossible to realistically pursue a conviction. After consulting with police and prosecuting counsel, and discussing the matter with the alleged victim, the decision was made to offer no evidence against Mullen, a decision that was fully endorsed by the trial judge. This development added a complex layer to Mullen’s criminal profile, highlighting the ongoing challenges in prosecuting cases involving young victims and conflicting testimonies.

Overall, the case of Michael Mullen remains a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals with a history of violent and sexual offenses, especially when they target the most vulnerable members of society. The community in Leeds, particularly in Gipton, continues to grapple with the aftermath of these tragic events, seeking justice and safety for all its residents.
