BOLTON MAN MICHAEL MORRIS SHOCKS LECONFIELD SCHOOLGIRL WITH WEBCAM SEX ACT
In November 2013, a disturbing case emerged involving Michael Morris, a man from Bolton, who engaged in a shocking act of online sexual misconduct directed at a young girl from Leconfield. The incident came to light when the 13-year-old girl was messaging her friend on her computer and unexpectedly encountered a disturbing video on her screen.
According to her testimony in court, she was in the midst of a casual conversation when a man, later identified as Michael Morris, began contacting her through an MSN chat.
The girl recounted that the man introduced himself as Mick and inquired whether she had a webcam.
She responded that she did not possess one, but shortly after, a live webcam feed appeared on her laptop.
The image showed a man sitting with his lower half visible, revealing green tattoos on his arms, characterized by swirling patterns and green coloration.
Terrified and disgusted, the girl immediately disconnected her device and confronted the man, accusing him of being a paedophile and threatening to report him to the police.
She described her emotional distress during the ordeal, tearfully recounting how she felt when the video appeared and how she responded.
The girl’s account detailed that she initially thought she was talking to her friend but was shocked to see the man on her screen performing a sexual act.
She identified the man as Michael Morris, who had previously engaged in webcam sex acts with adult women he met online.
Despite Morris’s claims that his email account had been hacked and that he was not responsible for the incident, authorities were able to identify him through his email address and the distinctive tattoos visible in the webcam footage.
Michael Morris, aged 54, was brought before Hull Crown Court, where a jury unanimously found him guilty of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.
The court heard that Morris had a history of performing webcam sex acts for adult women, which added context to the case.
Judge Michael Mettyear, the Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, decided to adjourn sentencing until a later date, specifically scheduled for December 19.
He ordered Morris to cooperate with the Probation Service so that a report could be prepared, emphasizing that it was in Morris’s best interest to do so.
The judge also granted Morris bail until the sentencing date and mandated that he register as a sex offender.
As the investigation unfolded, authorities confirmed that Morris’s identity was established through digital evidence, including his email address, and the tattoos seen in the webcam footage.
The case highlights the dangers of online interactions with strangers and the importance of vigilance among young internet users.
The girl, who was visibly distressed during her testimony, expressed her relief that the perpetrator was being brought to justice, and her courage in reporting the incident.
Further legal proceedings are scheduled, with Morris set to be sentenced on December 19, 2013, in Hull.
The case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing risks associated with online grooming and exploitation, especially involving minors.
