BLACKPOOL MAN MICHAEL MCKEOWN CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Blackpool, Michael McKeown, a 54-year-old resident of Spencer Court, was found guilty of possessing indecent images of children. The incident came to light after police executed a search warrant at his home in January of the previous year, uncovering a disturbing collection of illicit material.
During the police investigation, officers seized multiple electronic devices, including two laptops, a portable hard drive, and several DVDs.
An examination of these devices revealed a total of thirty-five still images classified as level one, which is considered the least serious category of such material.
Additionally, three images fell into level three, and one particularly disturbing image was classified as level four, all recovered from the hard drive.
The authorities also found a number of video clips depicting similar content.
When questioned by police, McKeown claimed that he had been searching for adult pornography and suggested that he might have accidentally clicked on other material.
He explained that his eye problems made it difficult for him to distinguish the content, which he claimed he was unaware of at the time.
Despite his assertions, the evidence clearly indicated his possession of illegal images involving children aged approximately 12 to 14 years old.
McKeown admitted to the charges, which included 14 counts of possessing indecent images of children.
His guilty plea led to his being sentenced at Preston Crown Court, where the judge emphasized the gravity of his actions by stating, “This is a significant fall from grace.” As part of his sentence, McKeown was placed on a three-year supervision order, which includes participation in an internet sex offenders treatment program.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for five years and subject to a sexual offenders prevention order for the same duration.
These measures aim to monitor and prevent any future offending behavior.
Prosecutor Francis McEntee highlighted that McKeown was a man of previously good character, which perhaps made the case even more troubling.
The defense, represented by Chris Hudson, acknowledged the seriousness of the offense but pointed out that the case involved a relatively limited number of images, especially when compared to cases involving tens of thousands of such illicit materials.
Hudson described McKeown as a “damaged individual and vulnerable,” emphasizing the need for understanding and appropriate treatment.
Throughout the proceedings, the court was reminded of the disturbing nature of the images, which depicted children estimated to be between 12 and 14 years old.
The case has raised concerns about online safety and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
