In a case that has shocked the community of Blackpool, Michael Mackenzie, aged 69, formerly residing on Keswick Road, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of heinous sexual crimes committed against a young girl. The offences took place in May 2005, when the victim was only 14 years old, and the case came to light many years later, leading to a court hearing at Preston Crown Court.
During the proceedings, Mackenzie admitted to committing one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault.
The court heard that these crimes were committed in Blackpool, a seaside town known for its lively entertainment and tourist attractions, but also marred by this disturbing incident.
The details of the case revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that left a lasting impact on the young girl involved.
The judge at Preston Crown Court sentenced Mackenzie to a total of 19 years in prison.
This included a 14-year term for the rape conviction, reflecting the severity of the crime, and an additional five years because Mackenzie was classified as a dangerous offender, which warrants a longer sentence to protect the public.
Furthermore, Mackenzie received an eight-year sentence for the two indecent assault charges, which are to run concurrently with the other sentences, ensuring he remains incarcerated for the majority of his punishment.
In addition to his prison term, Mackenzie was ordered to comply with a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.
This measure is intended to monitor his activities and prevent further harm, emphasizing the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions.
The case has garnered significant attention within the Blackpool community, highlighting ongoing concerns about safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring justice is served for victims of sexual violence.
