CHESTERFIELD MAN MICHAEL GRAY CAUGHT WITH HORSE AND DOG SEX PICTURES IN SHOCKING CASE
In June 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Michael Gray, a 70-year-old resident of Chesterfield, who was found to possess a large collection of illegal and highly disturbing images. Gray, who has been married to his wife for 47 years, was discovered to have created and stored a total of 862 indecent images of children, alongside explicit material involving animals, including pictures of people engaging in sexual acts with a horse and a dog.Authorities from Derbyshire Constabulary conducted a thorough investigation after seizing two laptops and a memory stick from Gray’s residence. Expert analysis of these devices revealed the sickening content, which included images that had been deliberately saved and some that had been deleted but could still be recovered. The material was found to be stored across multiple devices, indicating a significant level of premeditation and intent.
Gray appeared before Derby Crown Court to face charges related to his possession and creation of these illegal images. Prosecuting barrister Alex Wolfson provided detailed information about the severity of the material, stating that 41 of the images were classified as Category A, the most serious level of child exploitation images. Additionally, there were 52 images categorized as Category B and a staggering 769 images classified as Category C. The court was also informed that Gray had visited numerous websites hosting such illicit content.
During police interviews conducted on January 4 and April 10, Gray admitted to having an interest in adult pornography. However, the investigation revealed that his collection included images of children being abused, which significantly heightened the seriousness of the case. Mr. Wolfson emphasized that the presence of Category A images warranted a starting point of at least one year in prison.
Judge Nirmal Shant, presiding over the case, addressed Gray directly, noting that he resides on Howard Drive in Chesterfield. She remarked that Gray “should know better,” highlighting the gravity of his actions. The judge pointed out that viewing such images constitutes a direct endorsement of the abuse of children, to which Gray responded that he understood the implications.
While acknowledging that Gray is of good character, the judge emphasized that the offending behavior persisted over a period of one year. Ultimately, she sentenced Gray to eight months in prison but suspended the sentence for two years, allowing him to avoid immediate incarceration under the conditions of the suspension.
