MICHAEL CURTIS FROM ASHFORD JAILED FOR PUPIL SEX ABUSES IN HERTFORDSHIRE AND KENT
In a significant case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Ashford and Hertfordshire, Michael Curtis, a 67-year-old former teacher residing on Wye Road in Ashford, Kent, has been sentenced to six years in prison for multiple counts of indecent assault against pupils. The conviction was handed down at St Albans Crown Court on a recent Thursday, following a detailed trial that uncovered disturbing allegations against the former educator.During the proceedings, Curtis was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault. Three of these offenses took place in Hertfordshire between the years 1980 and 1986, a period during which Curtis was actively involved in teaching. The fourth incident was reported to have occurred much later, in 2010, within the county of Kent. All victims involved in these cases were students under the age of 14 at the time of the assaults.
While the jury acquitted Curtis of three other counts of indecent assault, the conviction on the four charges was enough to secure a substantial prison sentence. The case highlighted the abuse of trust by Curtis, who exploited his position as an educator to commit these heinous acts against vulnerable pupils.
Detective Sergeant Rebecca Crudgington, representing Hertfordshire police, issued a statement emphasizing the gravity of Curtis’s actions. She stated, “Curtis abused his position of trust as a teacher and repeatedly abused pupils, who were all aged under 14, by touching them inappropriately. I would like to commend the bravery of the victims in this case throughout the criminal investigation and court proceedings.”
As part of his ongoing legal obligations, Curtis will be registered on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life, ensuring that his status as a convicted sex offender remains publicly accessible and monitored. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the devastating impact of abuse by those entrusted with their care.
