ALAN LAW FROM ASHFORD SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRLS IN MAIDSTONE
In a case that spanned over three decades, Alan Law, a 55-year-old lorry driver from Torrington Road, Ashford, has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for sexually abusing two young girls. The offences, which date back to 1979, were brought to light during a court hearing at Maidstone Crown Court, revealing a disturbing pattern of grooming and abuse that profoundly impacted the victims' lives.Prosecutor Eloise Marshall detailed that Law's misconduct began when he was in his twenties. He engaged in manipulative behavior by showing the girls explicit images in magazines, instructing them to imitate sexual positions on the floor, and physically molesting them. The court heard that these acts were not isolated incidents but part of a sustained pattern of abuse over several years.
Judge Charles Macdonald QC addressed the court, emphasizing the severity and persistence of Law's actions. He described the offences as “distasteful activities,” including Law watching one of the victims dance semi-naked, which added to the trauma inflicted upon the girls. One of the victims provided a detailed 15-page statement, illustrating the profound emotional damage caused by Law’s actions. The judge noted that her account demonstrated how her entire emotional well-being had been disrupted, with the abuse leaving lasting scars.
The second girl also suffered significant mental health consequences as a result of Law’s misconduct. The court was told that Law’s understanding of the impact of his actions remained limited, and his level of victim awareness was deemed to be low. As part of his sentence, Law was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
