MICHAEL ANDREWS SENTENCED IN SOUTHSEA FOR 11-YEAR CHILD ABUSE HORROR

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Southsea, Michael Andrews has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against a young girl over a period of more than a decade. The crimes, which began when the victim was only eight years old, involved a pattern of grooming, manipulation, and repeated abuse that left lasting scars.

Andrews, aged 58 and residing on Prince Albert Road in Southsea, was found guilty of 12 counts related to sexual offences after a week-long trial at Portsmouth Crown Court. The jury, which deliberated for several days, reached a verdict of guilty on all counts by a vote of 10 to 2. The court heard that the victim, now an adult woman, only felt able to come forward and report Andrews after confiding in her partner about the abuse she endured during her childhood.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Sarah Munro QC detailed the disturbing nature of Andrews' actions. She explained that he began grooming his young victim when she was just eight years old, gradually establishing a manipulative relationship that would span many years. The judge revealed that Andrews first raped the girl when she was 11, an act that profoundly affected her sense of self and her understanding of right and wrong.

Judge Munro described how the victim felt confused and conflicted, believing that her experiences with Andrews were somehow her fault. She was subjected to a cycle of abuse that she tried to block out in her attempt to lead a normal life. The victim believed she was in a relationship or having an affair with Andrews, yet at the same time, she felt intimidated and controlled by him. Despite knowing that what was happening was wrong, Andrews managed to convince her that she was responsible for the abuse, further complicating her feelings and perceptions.

It was only after years of suffering that the victim found the courage to report Andrews to the authorities. When confronted, Andrews denied all allegations, forcing her to relive her trauma as she gave evidence in court. Judge Munro expressed her hope that the victim might find some solace in the fact that her abuser has now been brought to justice and will face the consequences of his actions. She described the case as a campaign of abuse, with Andrews engaging in regular rapes over many years, causing irreparable damage.

Although the victim’s full statement, which detailed the profound psychological impact of the abuse, was not read aloud in court, Judge Munro acknowledged the severe effects on her mental health. She described her as suffering from low confidence, diminished self-esteem, and feeling 'damaged goods.' The victim has expressed her desire to heal and move forward, stating that she hated her childhood and hopes to 'fix herself.'

As part of his sentence, Andrews has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and is permanently barred from working with children. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of child abuse and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals within the community of Southsea.
