July 2007 Blind Date man raped teen A FORMER Blind Date contestant was given an indefinite jail sentence today for the rape of a 15-year-old girl after plying her with cannabis. Johnny Law, 38, of Green Road, Southsea, Hants, was found guilty by a jury at Portsmouth Crown Court of raping a 15-year-old girl. He also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis resin with intent to supply. Judge Ian Pearson imposed a sentence of Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) which means Law will be jailed until the parole board deems him safe to release. Judge Pearson ordered that this would be a minimum period of four years’ imprisonment. He also sentenced him to 12 months’ jail to run concurrent for the drugs offence. The court heard that Law was a regular cannabis and cocaine abuser but had weaned himself off the drugs while in custody. Sentencing Law, Judge Pearson said: “There is a significant risk to the public of serious harm by your committing further offences.” The court heard that Law had previously been convicted at Oxford Crown Court of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl. He was jailed in February 2002 for 12 months for this offence and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years. Law had been charged with rape in connection with this incident but this was dropped because the victim was too frightened to give evidence. The court also heard that in December 1995, Law was cleared at Oxford Crown Court of raping a young mum after he insisted that she had consented and no medical evidence of rape was presented during the trial. It was 11 months after this trial, in November 1996, that Law appeared on the popular ITV show presented by Cilla Black. The mother of his latest victim said that she was extremely upset that Law had been released after the 2001 conviction. She said: “To know that he has done something like this before and basically got away with it makes me feel sick.”
