IPSWICH MAN JAILED FOR FILMING AND PAYING SCHOOLGIRLS TO STRIP
A 56-year-old man named Melvyn Potter from Felix Road, Ipswich, has been sentenced to five years in jail for engaging in horrific acts involving underage girls.Potter paid schoolgirls aged 11 to 13 to allow him to film them as they stripped naked.
According to Judge John Holt, "You rewarded the girls with cigarettes, drink and money to strip and perform on video naked." The judge further revealed that some of the performances involved sex toys and were not merely indecent but pornographic in nature.
In addition to his prison sentence, Potter faces a five-year extended license period, disqualification from working with children, and a lifelong obligation to register as a sex offender.
The offences included three instances of filming the girls and a fourth occasion where he allowed them to record themselves.
Prosecutor Richard Kelly stated that the victims often visited Potter’s flat while absent from school.
The crimes were uncovered when the girls were overheard discussing payments from Potter to take off their clothes.
Potter had also sat with the girls watching the videos after filming.
His defense claimed he was depressed following his parents’ deaths and suggested that the girls had instigated the offences, acknowledging that Potter should have acted more responsibly.
It was also noted that Potter did not derive sexual gratification from the videos and erased them after making them.
