MAURICE (SAM) CULVERHOUSE'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN NORTHAMPTON REVEALED
In March 2018, Maurice (Sam) Culverhouse was released back into the community of Northampton after serving part of his sentence. His criminal history, however, includes a particularly disturbing case from August 2011, when he was convicted of multiple heinous sexual offenses involving a teenage girl.
In a four-day trial held at Northampton Crown Court last month, Culverhouse, aged 39, was found guilty of eight serious sexual offences.
These included charges of rape, assault by penetration, and causing a person to engage in sexual activity.
Despite his denial of forcing the teenage victim into performing repeated sexual acts, the jury unanimously convicted him of all charges.
Following the conviction, Culverhouse appeared before Leicester Crown Court, where Judge Michael Fowler sentenced him to a lengthy term of 15 years in prison.
The judge described Culverhouse’s actions as “a campaign of rape,” emphasizing the severity and systematic nature of his offending.
Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, underscoring the gravity of his crimes.
Judge Fowler did not hold back in condemning Culverhouse’s conduct.
He stated, “These are appalling offences.
You have, in your corrupted and perverted view of these matters, sought to lay blame on her.
There can be no blame on her.
You used your bulk and no doubt your reputation to intimidate her into submitting to the offences you forced upon her.” The judge highlighted that the teenage girl was entirely the victim, who continues to suffer from the trauma inflicted upon her.
Addressing Culverhouse’s criminal history, the judge noted that he had a record that included robbery with a firearm, assaults, and other offenses.
He served five years for robbery and spent months in custody for grievous bodily harm.
Although Culverhouse had largely stayed out of trouble since 2001, apart from a drug-related lapse in 2008, the judge pointed out that this history could not be ignored.
This was the first time Culverhouse had been accused of sexual offenses.
Culverhouse, who resides on Upland Road in The Headlands area of Northampton, was found guilty of eight charges, including rape, assault by penetration, and causing a person to engage in sexual activity.
He also pleaded guilty to three additional sexual offenses.
Prosecutor Piers Reed described Culverhouse as someone with a controlling personality, according to some acquaintances.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, publicly revealed her ordeal last August, describing how Culverhouse repeatedly forced her into sexual acts, which eventually escalated to rape.
Mr.
Reed recounted that following these incidents, the victim received a series of distressing text messages over several days, including messages such as “Have you phoned the police?”, “I’m truly sorry,” and “I deserve to die.” These messages underscored the emotional and psychological toll of Culverhouse’s actions on his victim.
