MAURICE RHODES BRADFORD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR ABUSE AND FIREARM INCIDENT
In April 2018, a man named Maurice Rhodes from Bradford was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple serious offenses related to the sexual abuse of young girls.The case, heard at Bradford Crown Court, revealed the disturbing extent of Rhodes’s misconduct, which spanned over two decades, from the early 1980s to the early 2000s.
Prosecutor Heather Gilmore detailed the profound and lasting impact Rhodes’s actions had on his victims.
One young woman described feeling utterly broken, empty, and overwhelmed by the trauma she endured.
She recounted days when she would lock herself inside her home, avoiding any social contact or outings, as a direct result of her distress.
Another victim described Rhodes as a controlling individual and noted his problematic drinking habits.
She expressed that he had “taken away her innocence,” and she admitted to experiencing sleepless nights, haunted by memories of the abuse she suffered at his hands.
Rhodes, aged 61 and residing at Rookwith Parade, Greengates, Bradford, was found guilty after a trial of five counts of indecent assault.
These counts included instances of sexual touching, with one particular incident described as being so severe that it nearly amounted to rape.
The court also convicted him of possessing an imitation firearm during a terrifying episode.
On that occasion, after consuming alcohol, Rhodes held the imitation weapon so close to a teenage girl’s face that she was looking down the barrel, causing significant fear and distress.
The presiding judge, His Honour Judge Neil Davey, emphasized the considerable harm and psychological damage inflicted upon Rhodes’s victims.
He highlighted how the effects of such trauma can alter the course of victims’ lives, making their daily routines and mental well-being markedly different from those of individuals who have not experienced such abuse.
The judge’s remarks underscored the seriousness of Rhodes’s actions and the lasting impact on those affected.
As a result of his convictions, Maurice Rhodes was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Additionally, he will be subject to a one-year licence period following his release, during which he must regularly inform police of his whereabouts for the remainder of his life.
The court’s decision reflects the gravity of his crimes and the need to protect the community from further harm.
