WREXHAM MAN MATTHEW WRIGHT ESCAPES JAIL AFTER POSSESSING OVER 100 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES

In a case that has shocked the community of Wrexham, Matthew Wright, a 23-year-old resident of Summerhill, was found in possession of a disturbing collection of over 100 indecent images depicting children as young as 18 months old.

Despite the severity of the charges, Wright was spared immediate imprisonment during his appearance at Mold Crown Court, where he faced charges related to the possession of these illicit materials.

Prosecutor Ms.

Jo Maxwell outlined the details of the case, revealing that the investigation was initiated after the National Crime Agency (NCA) in conjunction with North Wales Police obtained crucial information leading to a warrant being executed at Wright’s residence on June 19.

During the search, authorities confiscated several items, including a laptop that was found to contain the illegal images.

These images had been downloaded from social media platforms, according to the evidence presented in court.

The court was informed that Wright’s actions were particularly egregious, as he attempted to shift blame onto his father, claiming innocence and suggesting that his father was responsible for the content.

However, the police arrested Wright at the scene, and subsequent forensic analysis by the High Tech Crime Unit confirmed that the images were downloaded over a single day.

Interestingly, some images had been accessed a week prior, on June 11, despite having been deleted from the device.

Further investigation revealed that Wright had transferred some of the illicit images onto an external USB drive, which has not yet been recovered.

During police interviews, Wright initially denied any knowledge of the images and was unable to provide an explanation for their presence on his computer.

However, as the interview progressed, he gradually admitted responsibility and ultimately pleaded guilty on July 31.

Judge Niclas Parry delivered a sentence that reflected the gravity of the offense, describing Wright’s attempts to deny involvement as an effort to evade responsibility.

The judge sentenced him to six months in prison, suspended for two years.

In his remarks, Judge Parry emphasized the heinous nature of the crime, stating, “What you did was to contribute to the suffering of children, some aged as young as 18 months.

That sexual abuse of them would not happen unless people were prepared to view those images.

And you created copies of those images, saved them and also transferred them.” Despite the seriousness of the case, the judge acknowledged that Wright had no previous convictions and was a young man who had been working hard.

The court also recognized his expressed motivation to seek help and support for his actions.

As part of his sentence, Wright was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work, participate in a rehabilitation activity requirement lasting 40 days, and undertake a programme requirement of 35 days.

Additionally, the court authorized the forfeiture and destruction of Wright’s laptop to prevent further distribution of the illicit material.
