BRADFORD PAEDOPHILE MATTHEW WHITTAKER SENTENCED FOR ABUSING CHILDREN AND ONLINE GROOMING

In a case that has shocked the Bradford community, Matthew Whittaker, a 27-year-old resident of Bracken Edge, Thorpe Edge, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for a series of disturbing offenses involving children.

The court heard that Whittaker had a deeply troubling and unhealthy obsession with young girls, which manifested in both physical assaults and online predatory behavior.

Whittaker was convicted on eight counts related to his abuse and grooming activities.

The charges included four counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and three counts of attempting to engage a child in sexual activity.

The court was told that Whittaker had assaulted two children on multiple occasions, with details revealing a pattern of predatory conduct.

The case took a sinister turn when Whittaker attempted to contact what he believed were three 13-year-old girls through online messaging platforms.

Unbeknownst to him, these accounts were operated by members of the vigilante group Predator Exposure, who had set up the accounts to catch predators.

During these interactions, Whittaker asked the supposed minors for personal details such as breast size and underwear preferences, requested photographs of them, and even sent an explicit photo of himself to one of the accounts.

At Bradford Crown Court, Judge David Hatton QC delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the severity of Whittaker’s actions.

The judge stated that the evidence against him was overwhelming and highlighted the dangerous nature of his conduct.

Whittaker was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, aimed at preventing any future offenses.

Judge Hatton expressed his concern over Whittaker’s lack of understanding of the harm caused by his actions.

He remarked, “I do not believe you have any concept of the effects that such conduct can have on a young child and young minds, and the effects in this case have been considerable.” The judge further described Whittaker’s behavior as indicative of an “indiscriminate urge to communicate in obscene ways with young girls for your own sexual gratification,” noting that the online interactions were a form of grooming.

He also pointed out the significant age disparity between Whittaker and the individuals he believed he was communicating with, underscoring the predatory nature of his conduct.

The presence of members from the Predator Exposure group in court, with one waving to Whittaker as he was led away by security, underscored the community’s concern and the vigilance of those working to catch such offenders.
