BLACKBURN MAN SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER
A man named Matthew Thornley, aged 35, assaulted his former partner by punching her repeatedly in the head after he was confronted about her leaving a pub with another man. The incident took place in Blackburn on February 4, and was described during court proceedings as an attack that caused emotional abuse, although no physical injuries were reported. Thornley was found guilty of assault and received a 12-month community order, along with a £166 penalty and £170 compensation to the victim. Additionally, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from visiting the victim's residence. The court noted that Thornley had previous convictions for battery, but these dated back some time. Prosecutor Phillipa White stated the victim did not want to speak with Thornley and described how she was pushed down stairs and punched in the head during the attack, which began after Thornley followed her in her home and pulled her back down the stairs, causing her to fall. Thornley then got ready for work and left the scene. The magistrate highlighted the seriousness of the attack, emphasizing the emotional impact rather than physical injury.
