BLACKBURN MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT ON PARAMEDIC
Prolific offender Emile Nicol, aged 26, is highlighted in this report for a series of violent and abusive actions. According to court proceedings, Nicol was involved in an assault on a paramedic during a 2022 incident at his home. The paramedic was called due to suspected cardiac arrest, and Nicol was found unresponsive, but he lashed out, kicking a medic in the leg, refusing treatment, and subsequently leaving the scene. The court heard that while on bail for this assault, Nicol targeted his partner, the mother of his children, on June 6 of the current year. He arrived at her home, which he was not meant to contact her at, and assaulted her by pushing past her, kicking and punching her to her head and arms, and grabbing her dog round the throat. He shouted homophobic and derogatory comments during the attack. The victim managed to call the police, and Nicol left after throwing bleach over her. Two weeks later, Nicol visited her again, appeared anxious and argumentative, and after initially claiming he would turn himself in to the police, he became aggressive again, kicking, punching, and accusing her of infidelity. During this attack, Nicol pulled out a knife and stabbed his partner in the leg. She managed to escape and sought a lift from a passerby before calling the police. Nicol was arrested on June 22 and denied the allegations. The court noted he has 23 convictions for 35 offences, including multiple instances of domestic violence. Given his history and pattern of violence, Nicol was convicted at a lower court of multiple assault charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assault of an emergency worker. He was sentenced to two years and three months in prison and received a five-year restraining order against the victim. The court evidence shows a long-standing pattern of violent behavior towards current and former partners. The report also details his tumultuous upbringing, including the murder of his sister and the suicide of his brother, as well as struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, and diagnoses of depression and bipolar disorder.
