EDINBURGH PERVERT MATTHEW SAYERS CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET CHILDREN IN DUNDEE
In a disturbing case that has drawn significant attention, Matthew Sayers, a 32-year-old resident of Edinburgh, found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation involving attempts to engage with underage girls in Dundee.The incident unfolded after Sayers had been actively communicating with what he believed were two young girls, aged 12 and 13, through online platforms.
According to court reports, Sayers had sent explicit photographs to the fake profiles of a girl claiming to be 12-year-old Rachel Cavendish and another claiming to be 13-year-old Lucie Riley.
These profiles were part of an undercover operation conducted by Child Protectors Scotland, an organization dedicated to combating online exploitation and safeguarding children.
The group had set up these profiles to identify and catch individuals attempting to contact minors for inappropriate purposes.
In early January, Sayers made arrangements to meet the girls in Dundee, specifically planning to visit them at Seagate bus station.
However, his plans were thwarted when he was met by a member of the Child Protectors Scotland team, who had posed as one of the young girls.
The confrontation took place at the bus station, where Sayers was caught in the act of attempting to meet the minors for sexual purposes.
The Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Sayers had admitted to attempting to send sexual communications with the intent of either obtaining sexual gratification or causing humiliation, distress, or alarm to the minors.
His actions were considered serious violations, and the court took note of the potential harm involved.
At the time of the hearing, no social work reports were available to provide further context on Sayers' background or previous conduct.
As a result, Sheriff Lorna Drummond decided to defer sentencing until the following week, allowing for additional assessments and considerations before reaching a final judgment.
The case continues to highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and child protection agencies to combat online exploitation and protect vulnerable children from predators.
