MATTHEW HANCOCK OF WALSALL JAILED FOR OFFENDING AT GLASTONBURY AND ONLINE
In August 2009, Matthew Wayne Hancock, a 37-year-old from Lime Street, Chuckery, Walsall, was sentenced to four years in prison at Wolverhampton Crown Court for his disturbing actions.
Hancock, described as a paedophile, had covertly taken photographs of women using toilets at the Glastonbury Festival, including secretly filming about 12 women in a bathroom using a mirror to capture images.
His criminal activities extended beyond the festival; he had also befriended an American teenage girl over the internet.
The investigation into Hancock was triggered in 2007 when the girl’s grandmother in the United States contacted police, raising concerns about Hancock’s online interactions.
Following the inquiry, Hancock was arrested and subsequently pleaded guilty to 14 charges.
These included offences of voyeurism, producing indecent photographs of a child, creating a short indecent movie file, and possessing indecent movie files.
He also admitted to causing a child to engage in a sexual act.
The court heard that Hancock’s actions involved both clandestine photography of a minor and the filming of women in restroom facilities at Glastonbury Festival.
