MATTHEW DAVID STEPHEN BENSON SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS IN PRISON IN NORTHAMPTON
A man who sexually abused a four-year-old boy has been sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison at Northampton Crown Court.Matthew David Stephen Benson, formerly of Aylesbury, committed the abuse in Isham on May 19, 2019.
As a trusted adult, Benson took advantage of being left alone with the child for a brief 15-minute period.
The young boy disclosed the abuse to a parent, who promptly contacted the police.
Following the report, 25-year-old Benson was arrested and charged with engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 13, as well as causing a child to watch a sexual act.
At his trial held in September 2021, a jury found Benson guilty of both charges.
On Thursday, January 27, he appeared once more in the crown court to receive his sentence.
He was sentenced to seven years plus an additional four years on extended licence for sexual activity with a child under 13, as well as 16 months for causing a child to watch a sexual act, with these sentences to run concurrently.
Additionally, Benson will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Detective Constable Kirstie Brooks, the lead investigator, commented, "I am pleased with this sentencing result.
Benson is a dangerous man who exploited an opportunity to abuse a very young child.
He is now where he belongs—behind bars—where he cannot harm anyone else." She also expressed gratitude towards the young boy and his family, stating, "I would like to thank the young boy and his family who have been incredibly brave and strong throughout the investigation and court proceedings.
