MATHEW HYDE SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF DISABLED WOMAN IN WOLVERHAMPTON

Mathew Hyde has been handed a life sentence after being convicted of the murder of his disabled partner, Sara Bateman, in Wolverhampton. The tragic incident unfolded at her residence on Willenhall Road, where she was found lifeless on the 28th of March. Authorities reported that Sara, a 50-year-old woman with a disability, had been subjected to a violent assault that resulted in her being beaten and strangled with a dog lead, which was discovered around her neck at the scene.

Hyde, who is 41 years old, had recently moved into Sara's home to provide care for her. During a hearing held in September, he admitted to the killing, leading to his conviction and subsequent sentencing at Wolverhampton Crown Court. The court determined that Hyde must serve a minimum of 16 years before he becomes eligible for parole, reflecting the severity of his crime.

According to police reports, the attack was triggered by an argument between Hyde and Sara. The violence escalated to the point where Hyde strangled her to death, an act described by investigators as both brutal and unforgivable. Following the assault, Hyde fled the scene but was quickly apprehended nearby and taken into custody. His arrest was swift, but the emotional toll on Sara's family has been profound.

Her family issued a heartfelt statement expressing their grief and sorrow, stating, "nothing breaks our hearts more than having a world that no longer has her in it." The loss of Sara has left a void in their lives, compounded by the tragic circumstances of her death.

Detective Inspector Nick Barnes commented on the case, describing the scene where Hyde left Sara's body for her son to discover as "inexcusably cruel." He also highlighted Sara's vulnerability due to her disability and condemned Hyde for abusing the trust placed in him as her carer, describing his actions as a vicious assault that shattered her safety and dignity. The court's decision aims to deliver justice for Sara and provide some measure of closure for her grieving family, who continue to mourn the loss of their loved one in the city of Wolverhampton.
