MATEUSZ NOWACZYK SENTENCED IN CHELMSFORD FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN PARKWAY B&M CAR PARK
In a case that has shocked the Chelmsford community, 21-year-old Mateusz Nowaczyk was handed a substantial prison sentence of seven years and two months after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in the early hours of the morning. The incident took place in the parking lot of the B&M store located in Parkway, a location familiar to many residents of Chelmsford.According to court reports, the assault occurred around 2 am, when Nowaczyk forcibly pushed the victim to the ground and engaged in sexual assault. The woman, whose identity has been protected for her privacy, was left traumatized by the attack. The police responded swiftly to the scene, but during their initial investigation, Nowaczyk attempted to mislead authorities by claiming he had seen the suspect leaving the area and that he had heard the victim scream for help. These false statements initially led officers to consider him a witness rather than a suspect.
However, further police inquiries uncovered suspicious behavior on Nowaczyk’s part. Investigators found that he had conducted searches related to sexual assault and accessed the National Sexual Violence Resource Centre on his mobile phone, which was seized during the investigation. These findings raised serious concerns and ultimately led to his identification as the perpetrator.
Nowaczyk pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual assault by penetration during his court appearance at Chelmsford Crown Court on August 30. The charge of perverting the course of justice was left on file, indicating that prosecutors did not pursue it further. On October 31, the court delivered its verdict, sentencing Nowaczyk to over seven years in prison. In addition to his incarceration, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order, aimed at protecting the victim and preventing any further contact.
The victim, who has shown remarkable resilience, expressed her gratitude towards the police for their diligent work. She emphasized the importance of victims coming forward and speaking out, stating, “Women shouldn’t be ashamed to come forward on sexual assault because it’s not your fault. Please do not live in fear or sit in silence. I am not a victim, I am a survivor.”
Detective Chief Inspector Antony Alcock praised her bravery and highlighted the seriousness of Nowaczyk’s actions. He noted that such behavior, while rare, is extremely serious and warrants swift police action. The investigation’s success was attributed to the quick response of law enforcement and their ability to uncover Nowaczyk’s lies, ultimately leading to justice being served in this troubling case.
