Update 16/04/2026: A sexual predator who preyed on children in Rossendale, Bolton and Radcliffe has died in prison.Martyn Woods, who was 72 when he was sent to prison, was jailed for 14 years for sexual abuse of a girl between 1962 and 1976.
Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard how between 1962 and 1976 Woods repeatedly sexually abused a young girl, starting when she was 4 years old until she was 16.

In a case that has shocked the community of Wigan, a 72-year-old man named Martyn Woods has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 14 years for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against two young children.
The crimes, which spanned several years, involved the repeated abuse of a young girl and a teenage boy, both of whom suffered profound emotional trauma as a result of Woods' depraved actions.
Woods' offending history remained hidden for many years, with the abuse going unpunished until a courageous victim finally came forward last year to report the incidents.
